I'm what you'd call a music enthusiast. Not one of those obsessive people, but definitely fanatical about it. This blog began as a forum for whatever I am listening to throughout the day but I'm also trying to include full-blown CD reviews too.

About Me

shanleymusic
UPDATED - 3/1/24. (This update is LONG overdue!) I've lived in Pittsburgh all my life. It's a good town. Come and see it. Although most of my writing here covers jazz - in particular, the more avant-garde or envelope pushing type - I've played bass in indie rock bands and like to write about that kind of music too. Currently I'm in the Harry Von Zells, Our album, Play It Backwards, came out in Spring '23. Beyond that, I won't list my whole musical past but I should mention my first band, Bone of Contention because I occasionally hear from people who are trying to find the song "Barbie Likes to Die" from our first album - which was rereleased digitally. Our whole catalog (and the HVZ album) are on Bandcamp on the Igor Records page. As a music scribe, I've contributed and edited for nearly every alt-weekly in town. Nationally I contribute to the New York City Jazz Record and spent about 20 years at JazzTimes. I am also a member of the Jazz Journalists Association.
